if in usa its illegal to date someone under 18 if you are over 18 but in england you can date anyone over 16 if you are over 16 then what happens if a 20 year old from england online dates a 17 year old from usa ??????? this was just something random i thought of .....

It's not illegal to date. It's illegal to engage in sexual behavior. And the precise age varies from state to state. In most states it's 18, in some a bit younger.





As for your question: it depends. Did the American girl physically go to England to meet this guy? Did she meet him in England? Who sought out whom? Generally: one country will not enforce the criminal laws of another country. If the English man stays in the UK and never visits the US, it's unlikely anything will happen to him. If he comes to the US and has sex with an underage girl, he'll get arrested just like anyone else.

Reply:As long as they go out in England they should be fine. If they step out for a night on the town in the US. and her or his parents get upset, it could be a bad night for the 20year old. It would be better to wait a year.

Reply:It's not illegal for someone over 18 to date someone younger, it's illegal for them to have sex. If you are seventeen, "dating" someone in England, chances are, you're not having sex, so there isn't really a problem.
Reply:depends if the parents of the 17 year old find out then that could lead to problems but mostly that refers to the action of sex if that is the case i do think legal actions can be taken by the parent of the 17 year old againt the 20 year old
