If Internet dating sites are acceptable nowadays, why do people still make a big fuss over mail order brides?

Seems like the only difference is one connects two lonely human beings from across town, and the other across the world. You still meet a mail order bride's parents and everything. Seems like a double standard to me.


Personally, I think that both are ackward and take away from spontaneity. I dont do blind dates and I wouldnt do this, but made me curious because when two female coworkers speak of mail order brides they spew hatred towards the institution, but are very accepting of Match.com and the like. Women!

Reply:the power relations are totally different. with internet dating, no matter where both partners live, the relationship is equal. with "mail order brides", the relationship is fundamentally unequal. a women from a poor country is using a guy from a rich country to escape economic hardship, which leaves her powerless. this is why men who acquire "mail order brides" are usually pathetic losers who are looking for someone to dominate.
Reply:Well, dating and marrying are two totally different things. With internet dating you meet someone and mutally date. With mail order brides you are selecting and paying for a woman to be your wife, BIG difference there.
Reply:I had a neighbor in my apt. complex, who retired on medical from GM and internet talked to ladies from China. Flew over there, as I played his seceratary gathering his mail and passing lawyer info from his ex old lady who was giving him the typical hard time after the divorce. Met a gal (sowed some oats thanks to Viagra, the Chinese peasant gals haven't had too much experience with V). Came back to the states, flew back and wound up marrying her bringing her back and now live in N. carolina with their baby she had just before they left my apt complex. So overseas can work and the Chinese gal was really nice (and young %26amp; attractive) . so he did ok for himself, and he says Americans can live like Kings over there cuz so many wish to learn english. So if you got a pension or what not and are looking for some possible companionship. May give it a whirl.

Online dating sites you get to talk to the person you're going to date, and see if you like them, just like if you were meeting in a bar or something. It's still dating and getting to know the other person before you marry... and you don't have to go out with who they say you should you can still pick from the people you want to get to know.





Mail order brides you're ordering just to MARRY not to get to know and date and like BEFORE you marry them...it's so unpersonal...
Reply:i think it's because the women has less of a choice with the mail order thing. There are some really great services, but all in all it has a stigma attached that has yet to leave and that because of all the bad things that have happened like the sex slave and prostitution rings associated with it. but you are right. some really great relationships have come out of mail order matches in which both parties are happy
